What Does the Cover Letter Generator Do?

The WorkersPool Cover Letter Generator uses AI to create a professional, personalised cover letter tailored to a specific job and company — in about 60 seconds. You provide your name, job title, experience level, key skills and tone preference, and the tool writes a complete letter ready to send or edit.

It also includes a skill extraction feature: paste a job posting and the tool automatically identifies the key skills the employer is looking for, so your letter speaks directly to what they need.

The output is fully editable — click anywhere in the generated letter to make changes before copying, downloading as a .txt file, or printing.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Enter your personal details Fill in your full name, email and phone number. Email and phone are optional — only include them if you want them to appear in the letter header.
  2. Enter the job details Type the job title you are applying for and the company name. If you know the hiring manager's name, add it — the letter will address them by name instead of using a generic greeting.
  3. Fill in your experience Enter your current or most recent job title and select your years of experience from the dropdown. This helps the AI pitch the letter at the right seniority level.
  4. Add your key skills Type your skills as a comma-separated list, or use the auto-extraction feature: paste the full job posting text into the box and click Extract Skills. The tool reads the posting and pulls out the skills the employer is looking for. Review and edit the extracted list before proceeding.
  5. Choose your tone Select one of four tones — Professional, Enthusiastic, Confident or Friendly. Choose the tone that best matches the company culture. A startup may suit Enthusiastic or Friendly; a law firm or bank will expect Professional.
  6. Add an optional achievement (recommended) If you have a specific achievement to highlight — a sales figure, a project outcome, an award — enter it here. The AI will weave it into the letter naturally. This is the single biggest improvement you can make to your letter.
  7. Click Generate My Cover Letter The AI writes your letter in seconds. It appears in the panel on the right.
  8. Edit, then save Click anywhere in the letter to edit any word or sentence directly. When you are happy, use Copy to copy to clipboard, Download .txt to save as a file, or Print for a printable version.

Understanding Your Generated Letter

The generated letter follows a standard professional structure: a header with your contact details, a salutation, three paragraphs, and a closing sign-off.

Paragraph 1 — The opening: States the role you are applying for, where you found it, and a brief hook about why you are a strong candidate.

Paragraph 2 — Your experience: Highlights your relevant experience, skills and (if provided) your key achievement. This is the most tailored section — the AI incorporates the skills you entered and the company name to make it specific.

Paragraph 3 — The close: Expresses enthusiasm for the role, references the company specifically, and includes a call to action for next steps.

The letter is intentionally kept to one page — three tight paragraphs is the standard that hiring managers prefer. If you want to expand it, click directly into the text and add content.

Example: Priya Applies for a Marketing Manager Role

Priya is a marketing coordinator with 5 years of experience applying for a Marketing Manager role at a mid-size Toronto tech company. Here is what she enters:

CompanyNexus Digital Inc.
Current Job TitleMarketing Coordinator
Experience5–8 years

  • Fully editable — you stay in control
  • Nothing stored — completely private

Limitations

  • Download is .txt only — formatting must be added in Word or Google Docs

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my cover letter look like it was written by AI?
Not if you personalise it. The tool uses your specific details — job title, company name, skills and achievements — to create something tailored. However, AI-generated text has recognisable patterns, so always read through and adjust at least one or two sentences to add your own voice. The achievement field makes the biggest difference — a specific result (e.g. "increased sales by 30%") makes the letter sound human and credible.
How does the skill extraction work?
Paste the full text of the job posting into the extraction box and click Extract Skills. The AI reads the posting and identifies the key skills and qualifications the employer is looking for. You can then review, add to, or remove from the extracted list before generating your letter. The more accurately your skills match what the employer wants, the stronger your letter will be.
Which tone should I choose?
Match the tone to the company culture. Use Professional for traditional industries like finance, law, government or healthcare. Use Enthusiastic for startups, creative agencies or consumer brands. Use Confident for senior or leadership roles where authority matters. Use Friendly for customer-facing roles, small businesses or companies with a stated casual culture. When in doubt, Professional is always safe.
Can I generate multiple letters for different jobs?
Yes — click New Letter to reset the form and start again. There is no limit on how many letters you generate. Each letter is generated fresh with no memory of previous ones, so your data from one application does not carry over to the next.
Is my data saved anywhere?
No. Everything you enter stays in your browser during your session. Nothing is sent to or stored on WorkersPool servers. When you close or refresh the page, all data is cleared.
The generated letter has a section I want to remove — how do I do that?
Click directly on the letter text to place your cursor there, then select and delete the text you want to remove — exactly as you would in a word processor. The letter panel is a fully editable text area.

For Best Results

  • Always enter a specific achievement — it makes the biggest difference to letter quality
  • Use skill extraction — it saves time and ensures your letter matches what the employer asked for
  • Edit at least one sentence before sending — add your own voice
  • Slightly adjust each letter for each application — hiring managers notice copy-paste
  • Keep it to 3 paragraphs — one page maximum
